In Thorns News, on Saturday, August 16, the Thorns tied against the North Carolina Courage one to one thanks to an Olivia Moultrie goal in the 44th minute. With her goal, Olivia Moultrie equals the NWSL teen goal scoring record with 13 goals. Moultrie will turn 20 on Sept. 17, meaning she has to score at least one more goal in the next four matches to become the all time leader. You can do it Olivia. We believe in you. Here's to like two or three more goals. On August 18, the Thorns announced that midfielder Naomi Powell is signed to the contract extension that will see here in the Rose City through the 2025 season. For the Timbers, the Timbers fell 3-2 against FC Cincinnati on Aug. 16 after trailing 3-0 in the first half. A Kevin Kelsy brace nearly surged the Timbers to a comeback but fell short. Wouldn't you know it, Evander had the game winner for FC Cincy. On August 19th, the Timbers signed Paraguayan international midfielder Matias Rojas for the remainder of the 2025 season. Also on the 19th. Defender Finn Surman has been called up to the New Zealand men's national team for the FIFA International period in September New Zealand Football announced. Congrats Finn! For T2, Timbers2 midfielder Daniel Nuñez has been called into the Mexico U-17 men's national team for three friendly matches in Czechia in September in preparation for the FIFA U17 World cup in Qatar the Mexican Football Federation announced. Congrats Daniel! Then on August 20, Timbers2 dropped a 1-0 result against Colorado Rapids 2 in Denver. With just seven matches left in the season, T2 hosts Cascadian rival Tacoma Defiance on Sunday, August 24 at Providence Park. These matches are free so you should go. Kickoff is scheduled for 8pm Pacific and will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass on Apple tv. But you should go live because these games are freaking amazing. Legends Pre Funks. Know Any Kids? Our good friend Kaig Leitner, founder of Portland Community Football Club, has an important new project that continues the work of breaking down barriers for sport. He has asked for our help in getting the word out, so please spread the word to any families you know. The Aspen Institute's Project Play Initiative needs your help to understand sports and play experiences for children in Portland and Multnomah county with support from Nike, Project Play is conveying key local stakeholders to improve the access and quality of sports and physical activity for all youth. Project Play's findings and recommendations will be made in the State of Play Portland Multnomah county report that gets released in spring 2026. The Aspen Institute State of Play Youth Survey asks all young people ages 10 to 18 to share their sports and play preference to improve our programming and facilities. This survey is open to youth in Multnomah county whether or not they participate in sports. The short online survey does not collect any personally identifiable information, which is awesome because privacy is important and takes about 15 minutes to complete. The community space and tap room have been beyond our expectations as an org and we are really thankful for the engagement as we are learning more about running a tap room.
